As with our other places; New owners, new policies and many new features make sure your stay is a pleasant one. If you have stayed in the Nutcracker Inn, Wallowa Mountain Chalet or the Farside Cabin, we have the same measure of quality and comfort at the Riverbend Cottage. As for the name, my wife didn't like the Nearside Cottage so we went with something more appropriate.

This 3 bedroom (1400+ sq. ft.), 2 bath cottage, built in 1969 offers a quiet nice get-away.  Relax to the sounds of the Wallowa River from the new deck, or go down and dip your toes in. Enjoy the charm of the 60's with all the amenities.   Look for the retro accents that help create the charm!  Start with the fully restored kitchen with all new appliances including dishwasher,  microwave and a new washer & dryer.  Mostly new furniture and new beds make sure your stay is comfortable.  There is a queen sized hide-a-bed in the living area.   It is rated to sleep 8 (up to six adults) people.

The Cottage is set up in a comfortable fashion.  Living, dining and kitchen are all one large space under a vaulted ceiling.  A slider out of the dining area takes you out on the first deck.  From there you are steps away from the floating deck and from there steps lead you down to the Wallowa River.  From the living room a hall way takes off to the North which gives access to the rest of the house.  First bedroom is equipped with a twin over full log bunk-bed.  Second bedroom has a queen size bed.  Both these bedrooms are serviced by a full bath across the hall.  Third bedroom (master) has a king size bed and has it's own full bath.

Things to look for:

  • Newer thermo-pane windows.
  • Newer hardwood floors throughout most of the house.
  • Newer floor tiles at the front and rear doors.
  • Complete new kitchen, all newer appliances.

  • Newer washer & dryer.

  • Newer leather sofas and nice decor.

  • Newer beds and linens.

  • Newer knotty pine mudroom.
  • Two newer redwood/Trex decks out back, one by the dining area and one floating five steps down and new steps leading to river level.

  • Gas BBQ.

  • Cable TV, VHS, DVD/CD, stereo system and phone.

  • A good sized VHS movie selection is available.

On the Wallowa River.

I just had to show you this picture.  When we bought the Cottage it had 11 old and dying cottonwoods out back.  I thought they needed to come down for safety reasons, and it would open a view of the river.  We didn't even notice not having a mountain view.  But now, the mountain view is just unbelievable ................... best thing we ever did!

That is your view from the rear deck, with the Wallowa River right below.

A short Walk Away ...

  • It is a 5-6 minute walk to the Tram Station (4,450') it will whisk you up to the summit of Mount Howard (8150') in the comfort of the enclosed four-passenger gondola cabin.

  • The lake with a marina and swimming beach.

  • Four excellent, family-oriented restaurants.

  • Several shops, general store and lake activities.

  • Outdoor chapel, go-carts, horse pack station and miniature golf.

  • Wallowa Lake State Park and trailheads to the wilderness.
